This could have been written in Chinese easily. I spent two years wroking with a Chinese woman in a San Diego biotech company called Pharmingen, now a subsidiary of Becton-Dickinson. The company exploited her lack of US citizenship and paid her very little relative to American citizens like me, even though she was my supervisor, technically. At first, I felt sorry for her and tried to help her and put in a lot of unpaid over-time to make her look good to the company. Then all of a sudden, she turned against me with the rationale that I should not be any happier than she was. If she was miserable, then it's unfair that I was not as or more miserable. She made it her mission to bitch me to death and followed just about every one of the Jante laws. I could have easily believed that they were written as a description of that Chinese woman call Wei Jia. May she rot in Jante.
